The Making of Glam

Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped turned upside down... just kidding. Kinda.

(Nod to our hometown of Philly, I know you sang it.)

Hi, my name is Tina and I am the proud owner of Make Me Glam Professional Beauty Artistry. I'd like to tell you how Make Me Glam came to be in 2008. But first, I'll tell you a little bit about how I became a Philadelphia makeup artist!

A Langhorne, PA native, I grew up loving to wear beautiful dresses while digging in the mud. Softball was my life for 13 years and while I loved getting down and dirty, I was also the catcher with her hair down in 100 degree weather with a scrunchie on her wrist. Yes I was a tomboy, but my hair needed to be on point. I wasn't exactly into makeup, but having bad skin I slathered the covergirl foundation on like it was my job (haha which now is). After moving home from NY a year following high school, getting approached (while wearing no makeup) to work for Chanel Beauty while working part time making lattes at Starbucks was truly a Cinderella story. Three years of climbing up the later at Bloomingdales working for Chanel Beauty, Borghese and NARS cosmetics, I became restless and felt it was time to move on. I became a cosmetic trainer working with some of the best prestige lines in the industry including Too Faced, Stila, Laura Mercier, and Dr. Perricone just to name a few. I traveled to Sephora's and Ulta's through PA and NJ working on the sales floor and holding trainings on product knowledge to the staff. I knew the corporate ladder wasn't my ideal goal, so when I was approached to open a make up company in a salon and become a Philadelphia makeup artist, I knew in my heart that was my destiny. So in 2008 I established Make Me Glam (with help from an angel donation), traveled to NY to purchase my cosmetic line and began my wedding makeup artistry journey in a salon in Southampton PA. I'm so thankful to have met the owner Donna who encouraged me and taught me how to maintain a company, Im not sure if I ever truly thanked her. And here you have it, my long journey to becoming a Philadelphia makeup artist and creating Make Me Glam in a little paragraph.

Having been one of the first purely makeup artistry teams in the greater Philadelphia region, we have seen this industry completely take off. In the beginning, brides would hire us for just themselves and maybe their mom... if hire a makeup artist at all. Now our average wedding parties are between 9-15 clients including bridesmaids, moms, grandmas, aunts etc. We also have clients who want to get their makeup done for other events, attending weddings, proms, girls night out, to name a few. I thank social media for that, if it weren't for Facebook and selfies, would we really want to ever put makeup on? Not only has the wedding industry changed, but products have been getting better and better each year providing us artists solice knowing when we do your makeup at 6 am that it'll be guaranteed to last until the next day (or maybe longer... you know who you are.). We have specialized in airbrush foundation from creation and have never ventured away from it as it leaves such a flawless non-transferable finish our clients become addicted. Our home base holds our best feature, a perfect little studio in the cutest location above the best coffee house ever. Even after almost 1,000 brides and counting in the Philadelphia region, I still get butterflies every wedding morning and fall inlove over and over again being a wedding makeup artist, and with my clients. I don't know how to thank every single one of you enough for trusting us with your beautiful face and for the referrals you provide. Its because of you, our journey has continued and our company has grown stronger, bigger and better than ever. Going into our 11th year since established, we’ve been honored to have won Brides Choice Awards, The Best Of on The Knot, have been featured as experts on Fox29 multiple times, worked with the best of the best vendors, and theres still more to come! We are currently adding a few more exciting things to our repertoire that we are so excited about that even we are BURSTING at the seams! Keep on following us for more details and sign up for our future blogs and newsletters for all things GLAM.
